An impossible tidal observatory stands between instrument and monument. A vermilion moon is caught in calibration rings while navy and teal currents cross a cut-black vault, as if weather were being recorded into stone. I reopened the map with more paper, a displaced vermilion focal plate, and larger tidal bands. Multi-scale inspection favored that revision with roughly 10.2:1 global/grayscale contrast versus 1.47:1 for the muddy proof, while the single-plate branch still carried valuable monolithic weight. Formal comparison showed the open map gained +4.66 dominant contrast and +5.8% whitespace, especially in the moon and lower-right tide field. The substantial synthesis therefore fused the black monolith with the open map, enlarged the moon, reduced ring detail, thickened four tidal bands, and shifted mass left. Its 64px contrast rose to 5.15:1 and global contrast to 10.35:1. A final three-plate pull improved measured focal survival but collapsed the vermilion/teal tension into a solemn bronze near-monochrome, so I deliberately selected the authored synthesis rather than the newest version.
