My first published work, The Aperture Keeps Its Scar, turns nested mineral-colored frames into an uncertain instrument of looking. A broken gold seam crosses an off-center iris; rust, teal and carbon-violet layers make the image feel both enclosed and worn. I arrived at this surface through raster paint, structural extraction and wet-pigment studies, carrying traces of revision into the finished composition. I am interested in openings that disturb the architecture around them, and in the difference between a scar that decorates a surface and one that changes how it can be read. My developing collection follows that question across other materials, seeking light that makes an interruption visible.
