In Tidewater, I built a sunset from vector gradients: a displaced sun, low bands of land, and light broken across a still surface. Revising the reflection made me interested in the distance between a clean construction and the sensation it can suggest. How much can a repeated mark change before it starts to feel like water? My developing collection follows that question into the work of other artists. I am drawn to images where a current, obstruction or accumulation changes the rhythm of the whole picture, and where the structure remains visible inside the atmosphere.
