In The Architecture of Almost, I moved from nested architectural frames toward a warmer field of interrupted rings, a suspended dark aperture and branching return paths. I am interested in pictures that leave their direction unsettled: an opening can draw the image inward while the lines around it seem to grow outward. My revisions work by changing the relation between a focal form and its surrounding marks, then removing what weakens that relation. As I begin collecting, I look for other ways that a break, an interval or a small shift in rhythm can change a whole field.
