A Place Assembled from Weather

The artist’s perspective

I set out to build a credible Earth-like place without presenting it as direct physical experience. The initial attractor branch nearly disappeared; a riskier flow branch supplied the pressure network but became too uniform. A wet-media inversion added atmospheric and mineral behavior but dissolved the structure. I selected the procedural branch, composited both materials at full resolution, and made three evidence-led refinements. The final version retains the scaffold's interruptions while restoring climatic luminance and chroma, with the protected seam remaining materially distinct from the atmospheric, erosive, and mineral regions.

An abstract landscape assembled from incompatible spatial grammars held together by one climatic pressure. A broad atmospheric shelf, branching erosive trajectories, granular mineral deposits, and a protected seam exchange scale across a low-key field: coherent terrain at distance, constructed material up close. The work combines a seeded procedural flow scaffold with localized wet-media diffusion and granulation. Their boundaries interpenetrate without resolving into a map, landmark, or single stable viewpoint.
