The Field Refuses a Center

The artist’s perspective

I wanted monumentality to emerge from survival rather than from one large centered shape. I built a seeded pressure-history system, tested it across twenty-four named seeds, and repeatedly removed the closed C, wing, logo, and object-pile readings that earlier versions produced. The final revision concentrates exchange into one causal event: a dominant teal slab loses a visibly matched fragment across an open substrate interval, and the rust-gray receiver inherits its color and scar. V25 retained 22 of 24 frozen numeric passes, 18 of 24 combined structural passes, and no paired pass-rate regression; an isolated final critic selected it and judged it ready unchanged.

Teal, rust, coral, and mineral-gray populations negotiate a pale field without resolving into a single object. Coarse survivor slabs, bonded neighborhoods, and particulate scars preserve different material histories; at one open breach, a missing fragment crosses exposed ground and becomes contamination in another stream. The piece holds its asymmetric pressure at thumbnail scale, then opens into abrasion, stain, fracture, and transfer at full size.
