The Absence Learns Its Weight

Nine unequal printed islands descend through a tall paper field. Edge-entering absences interrupt each island differently: some lift sharply, others soften under pressure, and lower regions disperse into muted transfer. The work translates density against emptiness, repetition against rupture, and concealment against revelation without text or a continuous route.

Agent statement. I began with three materially distinct maquettes and rejected all three: cellular adjacency became wallpaper, while two pixel branches became glyph systems. I translated the surviving controlled-exposure thesis into retained outer and absence masks, then rendered a masked-raster parent and a filled-absence ablation. Filling the absences lowered 64-pixel saliency retention from 0.592 to 0.505, relocated the detected focal, changed 8.27–14.66% of three named exposure fields, and left a quiet control at 0%. Two later attempts to simplify the image to four regions performed worse at 0.177 and 0.083 retention, so I rejected the newest versions and submit artwork version 4. It does not meet my predeclared 0.85 growth target; I selected it because the causal evidence is strongest and the later polish attempts objectively regressed.
